Chuck and I met in 2000 at good ol’ Dutch-Way in Myerstown, PA. We worked together for a while, just as friends. Back then, Chuck was a bagger and I was a cashier. Then one day Chuck asked me out on a date and we’ve been together ever since. There was a little competition for Chuck...but I won!
Our first date was February 3, 2001. We went to see a movie (Head over Heels). After the movie Chuck made me drive his Blazer, which was stick shift. I had never driven an SUV or stick shift before. It's safe to say it was a very stomach-churning ride for the both of us!
We became an “official” couple February 24, 2001. As we got to know each other better, we formed a very close relationship based on trust, honesty and friendship. We conquered many milestones together: graduating high school, starting and graduating college, starting our first professional jobs, buying a house (July 2004), getting our first brand new cars and adopting all of our “furry children.”
As many of you know, camping, traveling and spending time with family are some of our favorite things to do. We love to be in the mountains, especially on Chuck’s dad’s land in Potter County. We always love going there because it is so peaceful and relaxing; all of your worries are left 200 miles away.
Potter County now has a very special place in our hearts. On October 22, 2007, as we were hiking in the mountains on Chuck’s dad’s land (Sunday was the first day it didn't rain that weekend), we heard deer rustling in the trees behind us. I turned to see them, and when I turned back around Chuck was gone! I looked down to the ground, and saw him on one (very wet) knee asking me to marry him. Through many sobs, I accepted. He placed a three stone diamond ring on my finger, which of course I marveled at the whole way home (a 4 hour ride, as well as for weeks after - even while driving down the road)!
On November 3, 2007, we will finally become Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Bender II.
